Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive tissue regeneration procedure that uses sound waves to stimulate the body’s natural healing process. It can relieve pain and promote healing of injured tendons, ligaments, and other soft tissues. This is accomplished by releasing growth factors in the injured tissue. During the treatment, you felt waves that helped reduce inflammation and break up scar tissue. It’s normal to feel some discomfort and tenderness, which confirms that the shockwaves were reaching the targeted treatment area. This process then signals your body to start the natural healing and reduce pain.

Added benefits include: release of Substance P Neurotransmitter responsible for pain modulation, powerful vasodilator, increase range of motion, stimulation of microcirculation (blood, lymph), increase cell wall permeability.

Research shows this therapy can stimulate Stem cells and other growth factors in less than an hour after treatment. This is a key component to this form of therapy because the function of stem cells is to regenerate and repair. This again triggers your body’s long-term natural healing process.

Typically, after 3 sessions you should feel a 60-75% reduction in pain. After 5-6 sessions, your body should produce the optimal amount of stem cells, at which point they will continue to regenerate and repair the damaged tissues over the next 8-12 weeks!

To maximize your results, please follow the Day of Treatment guidelines and the Post Care Instructions carefully.

Day of Treatment

  • Eat at least one meal prior to treatment on the scheduled day.
  • Stop taking any NSAIDS (Advil/Ibuprofen) the day before.

Post Care Instructions

  • Over the next 15-20 hours, you should experience a decrease in pain, swelling, and an increase in range of motion.
  • Avoid using ice or taking NSAIDS
  • Rest for the next 2-3 days and avoid any rigorous exercise for at least 3 days after each session to allow your body to focus on healing.
  • Since we have triggered a healing process, it’s very important to let your body concentrate it’s energy on this instead of adding physical stress.
